A Simple Way for Sadaqah

"The best Charity is to give water to drink"
 -Prophet Muhammad_

Hadist above could bring me a memory with my lovely grandfather who expected me to understand the attitudes and values of life. He said "There was always a simple way to help people. One of them was to give a glass of water or more". To be sure, I didn't catch the good reasons why this was so. Of course, it was completely useless to advice me because I was a child at the moment.

Like most other days, months and years, my grandfather keep continuing to say it over and over again.  I tried hard to hear and catch what grandfather "it" meant. Finally I felt compeled to ask him "How the water saving human lives?" My Grandfather smiled fondly at me and answered "Did you know, Allah has forgiven a woman because of her kindness to a dog?" Soon I started to his face, for it flashed across my mind that I had never  known the story before. I wonder how it could be?" Said me with a curious feeling!  Just then he replied "Seeing that thirst had nearly killed the dog, the woman took of her shoe, tied it to her scarf and drew up some water. Allah forgave her for that and entered her to jannah".

After a while, I cautiously asked "Well, then what should I do to get reward like the woman?" By way of keeping up the conversation a little. "Oh dear, if you kept on good terms with human being, you can get it!" Answered him with bright face. He added as an explanation by inviting me looked all around the rice field where we were sitting together on dyke at noon and then he pointed;

The poor buffalos under the scorching sun,
The farmers keep toiling away despite the blazing heat.

And asked me to imagine when I suddenly saw;

The vendors looking down-and-out on the street
The wayfarers you meet.

He told me with clearly voice that to be kind and help the human being that already mentioned above can do by providing and giving them with their needs even only to pour a glass of water, you had given charity (sadaqah) to them. Sadaqah was not restricted to giving part of our wealth or material possessions but to smile with your brother and sister, to remove troublesome things like thorns and bones from the road is sadaqah too. Every Muslim whether poor or wealthy can give sadaqah all the times for only expected Allah's reward both this world and in the life hereafter. In addition, when we focus on what is lovely (sadaqah) about others, something magical happens; they will turn in respond to us in a new, positive way and of course we can become a magnet for new friends too!

I feel more blessed about this sort lesson because now it carry a greater beneficial of my life because whatever I will spend for good, I will get everything back in more.

 Now I know one lesson is "Those who spend in charity (sadaqah) will be rich rewarded".

Thanks for teaching me how to be useful person, grandfather. May our efforts or everything in us to do, Allah accepts as forms of sadaqah solely for His sake and save us from the Hell-Fire. Ameen.
