Overwhelming Experience at Xi’an
In my few weeks in China I got culture Shock
like in some places non existence of toilet paper because public toilets
usually do not supply it, using chopsticks was also new to me and took
quite some time to get used to. It was always embarrassing at first
when I couldn’t grab something tasty, I was laughed at so many times by Chinese
people while they watched me struggle with my chopsticks. Besides that, some of
Chinese people did not speak English so If I needed to go anywhere by
taxi or bus I had it written down in Chinese character as the people or
driver understood these direction much better and if I walked around or staying
in some public places, the people always staring at me. These situations
sometimes made me were not excited to go outside to look around.
But when I and some foreigner students have a
trips to visited some historic heritage’s places, I was very impressed and
given big appreciates for this country specially in Xi’an city, the goverment who
have good manages and protect those historic heritages example China's terra
cotta warriors, Daming Palace National Heritage Park, forest of Stone Steles,
Hanyang Tombs and Xian Muslim Quarters (the Great Mosque). To make visitors
comfortable, the government provides the best services and facilities in the
various aspects. So, we felt visited the museum is not something boring but it
was exciting and fun. The Xian Great Mosque was my favorite places, design and
architecture, with curved roofs, calligraphy in both Chinese and Arabic, the
mosque is a really nice and peaceful break from all the vendors, tourists and
hooting. In here, there are many ways to enjoy the culture and language of
China.
So, trying study Chinese is a great way to
open mind and experience the culture of the country. even though I
feel learning of Chinese has become the most difficult thing for some foreigner
including me because studying Chinese character and tonal system are two kinds
of basic lesson we have to know to distinguish words, a mistake in one
pronunciation can potentially change the entire meaning of the sentence but I didn’t
give up about that, I always expose myself to it as much as I can like
practice and memorize simple phrases and characters, watching Chinese movies
and talking with Chinese friends was my primary method of me. My some Chinese
friends was kind and friendly, they show me around the city and take some
places which I never would have gone to otherwise. I consider if many people
come to China to study Chinese it is very useful to make culture of this
country will be famous in the world and improving the tourism sectors.
Now I feel Xi’an is a second home
of me and hope someday I can come back again in here ^-^
